Land Cruiser 200 BTC Upgrade
A Braked Towing Capacity Upgrade (BTCU) is a means to tow a heavier van/trailer than the manufacturer originally intended. Within Australia the OEMs generally allow that the largest trailer you can tow with a light vehicle is 3.5T, and individual car models will have their own rating based on vehicle design, performance and the market demands for that segment. With the advent of ever larger caravans and the ease with which they can exceed the 3.5T ATM, Lovells first investigation into BTCU's was with the highly capable 200 series Land Cruiser. This car, with a hugely strong chassis, integrated towbar, powerful motor and big brake package was seen as an ideal case. In 2016 the first BTCU was introduced to the Australian market...
A BTCU builds on the additional axle load and GCM rating of a Lovells GVM Upgrade. In other words, the GVM and BTC upgrades go hand-in hand to re-certify the maximum axle load ratings and GCM rating. You cannot do a BTC upgrade without having the Lovells GVM upgrade done as well.
The table below illustrates how the two BTC upgrade options, combined with the two GVM upgrade options, change the overall ratings of your car.
